Hello and welcome to the official blog of Goldsithney Cricket Club. Over the course of the season this blog will keep you up to date with the highs and lows of running and representing our village side. With full match reports from both our first and second eleven games as well as providing an insight into the tireless work behind the scenes of some dedicated people without whom this club would not be able to function. We also hope to give an insight into the light hearted moments which may happen at any moment in this great club!

A little about us.
Goldsithney Cricket Club has two sides one in division 4 west and one in division 7 west. The club has been going through a transitional phase over the last few years and the first eleven are beginning to climb towards the former  heights the club once reached having last season achieved promotion from division 5 while the second eleven under experienced leadership have progressed hugely in the last couple of years since the side was re-established. This is great to see especially as many members of the side before the joining the club had played little or no cricket at all previously. Just goes to show what determination and hard work can achieve!
Our ground is one of the nicest around and is popular with visiting teams who often comment on how much they like it. When the sun is out we attract a reasonable amount of support although the more the better! The appreciation for those who support us regularly is huge. With the right weather the outfield is often like lightning which can make for some high scoring games great for entertainment, not so great for bowlers! Albert Pellow works tirelessly to ensure we have excellent cricket wickets and those who know him and even some who don’t recognise just how much the club means to him his commitment is invaluable to the running of the club. It should also be said that sadly the club lost another great clubman at the end of last season with the sad passing of Murray Robertson. Murray loved the club and showed this with his tireless enthusiasm which meant he umpired, scored and played at every oppurtunity a much liked and allround great man, there is no doubt that Murray will be sorely missed with a large void to be filled at the club.
The feeling of togetherness in the village is strong and this is reinforced on match days once the game has finished with a visit to one of the village pubs (as there are two  a side visits each pub on alternative weeks). It is always nice to unwind after a game especially after a tense finish and the key points of the game are often analysed over a beer or two, sometimes these key points start to become exaggerated in direct correlation with the amount of alcohol consumed!
As is inevitable with the close season unfortunately the club has lost a couple of well liked players. Mike Burt who has been invaluable for us with both ball and bat in hand over the last couple of years none more so than last year in our promotion campaign, has been offered the chance to progress his cricket at division 1 Penzance Cricket Club, everyone at Goldsithney thanks him for his efforts and wishes him all the best for the future. Secondly Mishka McCreedy who I believe has represented the club since the age of 13 has moved away up country and will subsequently be representing a side closer to him. Once again we thank him for efforts over a long period of time and wish him all the best for the future also. With every cloud there is a silver lining however and the club is delighted to welcome back Giles Lawrence who will be a fantastic addition to our side welcome back Giles!
Well that’s it for an introduction we have a practice scheduled for tomorrow at 5:30 so everyone welcome with the seasons start less than two weeks away. We can make no guarantees about the results we will achieve, but  what we can say is that every player who steps onto the pitch gives everything they have for the cause which is all that can be expected.
Until next time goodbye and hopefully see you pitch side,
Goldsithney Cricket Club.
Another wicket for Goldsithney ! plenty more this season on the cards!
